Forthcoming Bollywood Film, Goal

Film crew in the old rock garden at the seafront
Tuesday, 17th April 2007: the day history was made in Rottingdean - local history, at any rate. It was the day Bollywood came to Rottingdean.
About 70% of the cast and crew of the forthcoming Bollywood movie, Goal, had taken over the White Horse Inn and the old dilapidated rock gardens at the seafront to film some scenes. I came upon it just by chance. Luckily I had my camera with me.
It all looked quite chaotic - if good fun. A group of girls (extras or actresses, I don't know) stood in a circle on the beach, waiting for 'Lights, cameras, action!" They were there to shoot some beach scenes. But little happened during the time I was there. Occasionally, at some command, the girls would turn, smile and wave. But that was it.
It was a cool, grey morning - a change from the warm, sunny weather we'd been having. The girls looked cold. Perhaps all were waiting for one key actor to turn up: the sun! In fact, later in the day, after I'd left, the sun did show up.

There were lots of crew members milling around, and lots of equipment. Bystanders gathered to watch the novelty. I spotted a local resident trying to persuade one of the crew to contribute a few paragraphs about the event to the local magazine. History, to exist, must be recorded. Some of the crew were bored and were practising their footbal skills.
Goal is due to be released in the autumn.
