He was born in Lewes in 1782.
Inherited land in Brighton.
Graduated in theology from Cambridge University.

Founded his own religious sect and built his own church (Trinity Chapel
in Ship Street).
Built the Kemp Town estate.
He was in turn a member of parliament for Lewes, then Arundel, and
then Lewes again.
He moved to France in 1837 in order to evade his creditors.
He died there in exile in 1844.
