The Royal Pavilion, Brighton
Each time I pass, it strikes me yet again:
Its comic incongruity is plain.
A stone’s throw from a famous pebble beach
Behold! An Indian palace in the South East.
Its roofscape is an urban fantasy
In domes and minarets and tall, stone chimneys.
A most unusual English seaside sight,
At its wondrous best spot lit at night.
No Disney fake can match its stucco grandeur –
A prince’s pad in the people’s tenure.
